For the past year, Cultured Football has been picking the best football articles for you to read. This week, we're continuing doing that but in a slightly different manner: every day in this first week of December we're going to provide you with a guide to gifts that we feel you (or any football lover in your life) will enjoy.
Beer Mats
Ok, so this might seem like a strange place to kick this off (especially for a teetotaler like me) but whenever I come across football themed beer mats I always have to fight against the urge to buy them; rationality eventually overcomes instinct. Which, for me, is the sign of something I’d love to receive as a gift. And so, I’m guessing others would too. Check out the selection at Boots and Ball.
Football Pins
When I was younger, I used to love collecting random things. From stamps to bird feathers, I would spend hours just looking through those collections and dreaming of what I would like to add to them. In time other interests (ahem) diverted my attention but this year I’ve actually started a new collection, one of all the football pins from clubs of places that I’ve visited. I can’t say that I spend hours looking at them but I do admit that this little metal object gives me way more joy than it should. This piece from the Guardian goes into a bit more detail but is a lovely read. In the past I’ve used World Soccer Pins to add to my collection and have found them to be pretty reliable.
Signed Memorabilia
On the other end of the scale to football pins there is signed memorabilia which, if a lot of my acquaintances on Facebook are anything to go by, is booming right now. I have to admit that, personally, I don’t get the fascination but I do understand the need to own something that someone you admire has put his mark on. Warning though, things can get a little bit pricey.
